Models created using CAD systems often cannot be directly used for finite element analysis (FEA). These models may have some dirty geometry, which cause problems in meshing, resulting in erroneous results and loss of time for analysis. So these models often need to be processed to ensure they are in the form suitable for meshing.
A feature recognition tool for recognizing and cleaning up or idealizing such geometry which causes problems for analysis is to be developed. Currently, slivers (thin slender faces), skew angled vertices, short edges, skew angled edges, small faces, discontinuous edges and discontinuous faces are recognized from solid CAD models. |
