Interoperability and Design

Feature Recognition can be used after the transfer of data to extract features along with their parameters.

Design application

Today data transfer between two CAD systems is restricted only to topology and geometry, even if the CAD systems are feature-based. This is due to lack of feature standardization. Feature information is thus lost during data transfer.

Feature tree generation

Feature recognition (FR) can be used after the transfer of data to extract features along with their parameters. These features and their parametric data can be mapped onto the host modeling system’s feature catalogue through a post-processing module.

Secondly, many organizations have large databases of legacy CAD models which do not contain any feature information. FR can be used to create feature information in such cases. Once this is done, the features can be parametrically edited or feature information can be queried.

Similarly, legacy models sans feature information using this technology to subsequently derive benefits of feature-based editing.
