Automatic Fillet and Chamfers

Feature recognition technology can be used for recognition and suppression of fillet-chamfer into your application.

The sharp edges and vertices in models must often be replaced by faces in order to improve the model. This operation is called filleting. A commonly used filleting operation is blending, wherein the sharp edges are rounded to create smooth transitions from one surface to another. These changes may be needed to make a model more photo-realistic, aesthetically pleasing, safer, stronger, or physically realizable. Another related operation is chamfering, which flattens out sharp edges at suitable angles.

This module is regarding recognition of fillets and chamfers in a BREP model. Recognition of fillets can be useful from several viewpoints. One common usage is for suppressing fillets for analysis related applications. Another usage is in feature-based applications, wherein fillets are suppressed and recreated as feature operations. This makes it possible to reuse/modify existing fillets of an already existing model. Recognizing and recreating fillets is also useful in filling gaps in imported data and could be a useful tool for healing the models.
